Gene's Cigar ratings of the Month

Gene has on of the most extensive cigar collections I have seen...over 500 cigars, categorized, filed and stored in perfect order as only a true aficionado could manage. I have seen Gene's collection first hand and I have to say it is impressive.

This month is Genes rating of the Omar Ortez Original Maduro Robusto Grande...

True “originals” in every sense of the word, Omar Ortez Originals are rustic in appearance, robust in flavor and are packaged in unique wooden boxes. Certain to satisfy the lover of fuller-bodied cigars, these “puros” are handmade in Nicaragua with ultra rich Nicaraguan wrapper, binder and long filler tobaccos.

Overall this is one nice looking cigar. Nice solid construction with an even roll and a beautiful dark brown 'Brownie' colored wrapper, with a very slight toothiness. The aroma of the cigar is slightly woody with some very faint hints of leaf. The unlit draw is very easy with hints of vanilla (like a vanilla wafer) and some vague note of spice and wood.
The lighting of the cigar was easy and produced a clean coal while maintaining its easy draw. Each draw gave an ample volume of smoke that was full of subtle hints including ginger, vanilla wafer, and mild aromatic woods. The smoke gives the room a very aromatic woody atmosphere that does not lay heavy in the air. The ash is a bit light but hold fairly well and mildly crunchy. As the cigar progresses the flavors slowly change from the initial hints of spice to a rich cocoa woodiness to a mild toastiness. The finish is nicely full flavored but not strong leaving a mild yet flavorful taste on the palate.
This is one of the best Nicaraguan puros I have yet to smoke and I rate it an easy 89 with the slightly flakey ash being the only drawback from it getting a solid 90.

Thanx Gene for yet another GREAT Review of this Really Fine Cigar!

Stop in and try one for yourself and I am sure you will agree with Gene, that this is Truly an Amazing Cigar!
